few weeks back, i cut top off of my Kathleen's Black trying to see if that will help with getting figs. i kept a cutting and started rooting.

it's currently in 16oz cup and started putting out the roots through the peat pot. i use peat pot method. if trade is made, i will send the cutting in 16oz cup.

i'm looking for fresh cuttings from last year's growth from ONE of the followings.

Col de Dame Noir

Col de Dame Gris

Noire de Caromb

Ischia Black

Genovese Nero

Ronde de B.  (i have a trade going on this, but i would still like fresh cuttings)

if trade is not made, i'll just keep it as a back up tree.

the soil in this cup is 50/50 scott's seedling soil and scott's perlite. it has not touched local soil.

i'll post the picture later today.

i don't sell trees, nor cuttings. if trade is made, i'll pay the shipping for the Kathleen's Black.

Well, I wish I had one of your desired variates, but I don't, and I have no cuttings rooted at this time.  I could air-layer Violette de Bordeaux for you as a trade.  You probably already have that one, and my Panachee is such a baby, it's too early for taking cuttings..

Kathleen's Black is on my list because I like the unknown heritage factor.  Mysteries intrigue!

desertdancer,

no promise, but send me a PM/email in winter if you don't find KB source by then. i should have some cuttings. if i have any that i can send out to you, i will. this spring i sent 9 cuttings to 3 different people.

they root easy, so it won't be too much of an issue to get a tree out of it.

Thank you Pete!  We are in process of a remodel of a home owned by my husband, and lived in by his parents until the day his darling 98 year old mom died this past January.  He owns it clear and free, but the remodel is like "the money pit!'

Once it's sold, we plan to purchase a home with acreage in Fallbrook, CA, and there we will have room for in-ground figs, and our vineyard.  Hopefully, this winter, you'll be getting a request from me!  I'm happy to contain them, but love them more in the ground!

Thanks!
Suzi

Hi Pete,
Those roots are just starting to form.  Personally I wouldn't risk shipping it, and breaking off the new fragile roots.  Might be better to wait a couple months.  I might have an extra IB or CDDN.  I'm rooting a couple, but it's too early to tell if they will take off.  If you don't get a better offer in the mean time, check back in with me towards the end of the summer.

rob,

thanks, i'll keep your in mind. i would prefer CDDN.

once more roots comes out then i can pack it in box with cup and all and secure the cup and the cutting inside. sort of like how i got my plants previously from other members and gene h. didn't have any root damage that way. the top of the soil will be packed with wet paper towel to retain moisture and whole cup will be covered in some sort of plastic to prevent soil and other things spilling out. then the cup will be fixed on to the bottom of the box using strings. so unless they really bang this thing up, it should be fine. i can double box it with foam peanuts for additional protection.

anyone who get this from me and find that the cutting/root has been damaged will get 3 cuttings at during the winter.

but, yes. few more weeks will give better root development and will be better to ship then.

trade agreement made with Genovese Nero.

anyone who needs KB cuttings, please watch the forum coming winter. i'll post a thread when i prune the treee and then first come first serve, unless i made any trade agreement with cuttings. if i have trade agreement, i'll send it to the people i agreed to send the cuttings first. what ever is left over, i'll send 3 cuttings per person from what i have left.

my experience is that no one wants my VdB or Paradios Gene that i have.. but i tell ya.. they taste great!

Yes indeed Violet de Bordeaux is excellent tasting fig for me grown in container .
Inground may be a different story in cold climate i have heard but mine in containers in my yard as its much easier for me.
