I bought the anatolian seeds from ebay, this was from the pack that was labeled Balca weather the seeds were actually from a Balca fig or not is another story but this is just for fun not expecting figs although it sure would be nice.

I was knocking around the idea of purchasing some seeds from them, too. I grew a blood orange from seed, so I figured it was within my ability to go the long way with some fig seeds. Unfortunately, the blood orange turned out to be sterile. It's kind of a roll of the dice with figs seeds as well, correct?

John I think the odds of you getting a fig seedling that actually produces edible figs are allot lower than citrus. Most of the time they are either caprifigs or smyrna type figs wich need pollination thats why I tried just for fun just to see what happens. I have 6 smaller seedings that are about 6 inches now so if in a couple years I get no figs I will use them as rootstocks for grafting experiments.

Nelson, absolutely beautiful pics, It looks so pretty, especially the last pics. Very good, who knows, its still a pretty tree whether you get good fig from it or not, you have plenty more figs for edible purposes. Ciao

These are great photos. Be optimistic, every variety of fig started its life as a seedling.

Recently I had a chance to meet Nelson and he and I went to visit Adriano for about an hour and then we went to his office/greenhouse.

His plants are even more beautiful live than pictured.
Never imagined one could grow such beautiful plants with a set up as his.

Keep up the good work Nelson.

BTW,
I will be in the area in a couple days.

Thanks Sal its sure been fun growing it from a seed. I love growing things from seed I guess I take after my grandfather he always grows everything from seed and has quite a few unique Plums & Apples he grew from seed in Madeira island that are excellent tasting.
