If you go to James website this post is still in the archive.  A person would assume that he was sold out for 2016 and delivered in spring/summer, when in reality, no one received their trees.
http://www.figcuttings.com/p/fig-trees-for-sale.html

2016 Fig Trees For Sale

Order your fig trees now for spring/summer 2016 delivery!

All trees below are specially priced at $7 each.  They will be around 6-12" tall when shipped, and will be sent via USPS 2-day Priority Mail to minimize transit time.  The anticipated shipping date is July 1st, but will depend on demand and how quickly all of the varieties can be propagated.  Here are the shipping rates:

# of trees     Shipping
    1-3               $15
    4-6               $25
    7-16             $45
    17-25           $70
    25-50*          $140

*Max 50 trees per order.  To get more than 50 trees, please place multiple orders.

We can ship anywhere in the continental US (California included), but cannot ship to Canada or other international locations.  Some western states require bare-root shipping, so if you're in one of those states (CA, AZ, OR, WA), you may want to request a delayed delivery to avoid shipping during the peak heat of the season.  If so, just tell us when you would rather receive shipment by typing a note into the appropriate box when you're checking out, and we'll ship it at the later time that you request.  The roots of those trees will be packed with moist material and the leaves sprayed with an antitranspirant.

Sold out varieties can be ordered for early 2017 delivery on our "2017 Fig Trees for Sale" page. Please place separate orders if ordering trees for both 2016 and 2017 (i.e. all 2016 trees on one order, all 2017 trees on a different order), since they won't ship together.

"...will depend on demand and how quickly varieties can be propagated..."

Thank you Chapman...that line from James is key...he never put a listed limit on demand, and he put a caveat in the timeframe....

That is why we are not so upset...we knew going in this could take more time.

Is it possible for everyone to take their posts somewhere else? The only new posts I want to see here are James' updates. I don't need to read all the negative and speculative posts over and over again.

James: would it be possible for you to commit to a timeframe (bi-weekly or monthtly or another timeframe) when you are able to provide your updates? This would help me and maybe other folks too.

If you are attempting to imply this account is linked to Harvey, you are wrong. I have said it before, I have no other account. I have never done business with Harvey in any way. I don't care how this plant sale impacts the business of others except for the lingering and unaddressed issue of mislabeled plants being a very real possibility. To repeat because people seem to lack reading comprehension: I am not a commercial seller. I am merely trying to help people avoid what I see as a very risky enterprise. I'd be thrilled about getting some rare varieties that I've yearned after for $7, but I just don't see it happening.

Also, eBay reports people to the USDA, this is a well documented fact. I don't believe anyone reported you.

Best of luck with the cold weather, all.

ThaiFig, I am not sure who appointed you guardian all new figgers nor why you choose James' venture to continue to harangue about. There are many other pitfalls out there of which eBay scammers is one. Brings into question your real motivation for the ad nauseam posts that add no value to this discussion.

I am pretty new to figs and do have skin in this game. I purchased from James' website for Spring 2017 trees before I joined the fig forums. I (and many others have also said) do not need you to "watch" out for us.

Most visit this topic to get updates from James. As TooMuch said, please take the negativity elsewhere. This is requested of you and the others that are clearly just $hit stirrers.

Part of what made our great country is investing in people who are willing to work hard. James is clearly working hard. None of us will know (although many continue to speculate negatively) whether the venture is overly optimistic until it is all said and done. The posts that James is providing show the progress being made.

I have in no way been dissuaded, by you or Babylon or any of the other naysayers, in my willingness to wait for my order even if it is months later then originally scheduled. Or worst case scenario, never gets delivered. That is my choice. Your concern is disingenuous at best.

Thanks,
Wendy

when a post regarding you ...your answer is brief with no explanation...but do not worry...we can read between the lines...

is it true you are paid Assassin...trying to destroy James business and reputation...is it true what the other Post is saying...

Regarding international visitors with limited to no English skills...with James prices, they will afford to pay for English classes.

If anyone still have any doubts of who Taifigs is, just take a look at his Facebook page and you'll understand his motivation. Hopefully, he will not delete some of his posts before people get the chance to know who he is.

@Thaifig, If I were you, I'd call it a day.

TF,

You complain about "wannab" moderators and then act like one yourself...that person is entitled to their POV.

Hipocracy and maltreatment of new members, so very caring and concerned you are.

Trolls can post as they please on this forum.  At the very least they should be blocked. It is about where to some extent because this place is like a preschool at times and with trolls. The last thing I want to do anymore is read this thread, screw this thread it has been ruined. I have my own moderated forum I do not need to be here and I will certainly not reward the troll by joining their forum. That is partially why that troll came to this thread to start trouble to recruit new members for our figs. Also I got a private message from someone showing lots of photos that he dug up a fig tree I gave him just because I badmouthed him. The same sort thing that I badmouthed him on this forum for which goes to show that I was right. He rubs things in to people's faces rudely.

I'll take that tree he dug up.

Some people thrive on stirring the pot. As long as everyone keeps bitching and complaining with them they will never stop. If they were to post 4 or 5 post with no comments they would probably fade away. Or at the very least they're would be no more fuel to the fire.

If I wanted to deal with the things like what is going on this forum I'd join a soap opera forum, or watch the republican debates over and over again. This sort of thing could easily be prevented and it's not. So I am leaving.

Admission of your problem is a step in the right direction
This thread is not about alans problems.
Always drama.
Spif the stick I raised produced 1 yellow fig a year at best.
Not worth passing around.
I'm removing all my yellow figs eventually.
Doug
Notice how I did not even say your name, yet you revealed yourself. So all yellow figs are low production for you? You are a drama queen.

Serious question.  This rare southern snow event got me thinking. I wonder if James has a disaster plan regarding weather.  What if one of those midwest blizzards dumped enough snow to collapse the hoop houses?  If all his capital is tied up in facilities, utilities etc., it could seriously affect his ability to make refunds I would think.  I dont have any skin in the game and dont sell cuttings, so I am hoping things work out for everyone.  The more people that have these "rare" varieties the less "rare", and thus affordable, they will be for all of us!

This thread has become like a violent movie, with two sides: Side A attacking James and Side B Deffending James. Regardless of the side on this story, some points and concerns have been raised and I think are valid and need to be answered. I just wonder why James is not answering those valid concerns. I think that James need to answer them ASAP and he needs to be sincere with the people who bought from him, and he needs to be honorable to his word, because he swear to have weekly updates and we haven't seen that. More important, James you need to speak and to answer with the truth, because only that will stop this war on this thread.

Lebmark you appear to have lost your manners somewhere so perhaps you need someone to remind you of them...whatever your problem is, I don't really care, this thread is supposed to be about figs and not about anything personal, there are plenty of things personal to you I could mention but I will not as that is not my style. If you have something you want to take up personally, you know where to find me. I will be waiting for you. In the meantime, take a midol and SHUT YOUR PIE-HOLE unless it is about figs or something I have mentioned here.

Rob_Steven, it's nice of you to jump right in with your first post asking James for an update ASAP using the word sincere. So how many trees did you order?
Last time I checked my yard all my trees in TX were dormant. Unless you're expecting trees to grow on your iPad by pressing buttons, give the man a break.
I don't know what happened to camaraderie. It's called a fig community but all I'm seeing is a shark tank.

I'm enjoying the figs this year I got from James a year or so ago. I look forward to more. The cuttings he sent were awesome, and super fresh, all rooted very well.  They produced first leaf too, very impressive. Looking forward to my next order of trees this time. I know it's been awhile, but no big deal.  Thanks again James! What you're doing here is so awesome, good luck with it, and if any of us can help out in anyway let us know.

I'm not defending anyone. I happened to be one of the ones that don't mind delays. If you ordered anything and have a problem with delays you could write James and ask for your refund. It's that simple. Now if you wish to discuss figs then welcome to the forum.

rafaelissimmo, I do think willy owns a forum to defend himself, I think he already did...he does not need a nice lawyer (oxymoron) to defend him...and he is not the nicest to defend...never believe in somebody who licks his spit

rafaelissimmo, I tried to take your advice, but I see you did not take your own Advice , so why should I, Please compare what I said to what you said and you as everybody else will realize who has no manners...I thought I was advising a friend not to be associated with people who do not respect their word , you an old timer you should remember the butcher table topic that he was going to donate the proceeds to the Forum, how he used it as Marketing Ploy for his craftsmanship, and then he changed his mind. People from the same feather flock together, but you do not take constructive criticism very well...maybe you do not think of me as a friend...one more final advice...I  always advice people to not Drink and drive but in your case I will go one step further and will advice Not to DRINK AND WRITE...

Lebmark,
Some people are so good at advising others and think their crap doesn't stink . They simply don't realise how their actions upsets other people who cares or thinks highly of them as a good friend. I would say just ignore such back stabbers and those who talk bad of you to others. They won't even hesitate to create a fake account just to humiliate others.

Imagine you are running a retail store, and your competitor have a person in your store telling your customers the store across the street have a better product...
you are not hiding the fact that you are A FIG MERCHANT...trying to dissuade customers from buying from James on his page ...again that is not KOSHER...and Again NOT NICE

ThaiFig,

I do not care what you say your reasons are, I care what are you are actually doing...you did not buy figs from James, but you always trying undermine his business and remind us or future customers that he did not deliver yet...

you know by now that people who bought Figs plants, most of them are sticking all the way...so you are working toward new customers not to buy from James...

so Do not give us the usual Crap that you mean well...you do not...

I hope you are not being compensated by Fig merchant from the states...to do his dirty Job

Thai fig,

I stand with LebMark on this matter.

But for the sake of the forum can we agree to wait until spring?

Then, if trees do not start shipping, you can gloat...untill then you are seen only as an interloper.

Doug

I don't know how different individuals define a friend. For me it's not that complicated . If me and you chat regularly on Facebook or Skype yes I will consider you as my friend or a Facebook or Skype friend or a friend who I have never met. Nowaydays couples meet each other on the internet. Like me replying to you now although I'm not obliged to, but I somehow care to do so. Now that's my way of thinking and I'm not forcing any individuals to consider me as a friend. Did I used to think highly of this person? YES. But why am I upset ? Because I felt betrayed and it really piss me off. I'm not gonna say any names or further details here . But I also like to add something . One shouldn't bark about morals when they don't know the meaning of it.
Cheers

You are just bringing alans drama back to the forum.
Please mind yer own, it has nothing to do with you
Drop the drama huh kkk?

My reply was to Lebmark not to you and I wasn't talking about Alan. I have access to more Fig varieties than you guys could ever dream of in Europe, so I don't need to bring any drama . I was just telling the truth. I personally don't know you, we never talked or never did any trade. Basically you just chimed in and asked questions . Are you talking on behalf of someone? So who is creating the drama ?.

For crying out loud would you people please stop sniping at each other? The topic is the offer from James of $7 fig trees. His character has already been hashed out in this thread and it has gone both favorably and unfavorably. Any more about it from the same few people over and over is just repetitive and does nothing to add to the topic. On the contrary, it is dragging the forum down.

I have a few bucks in this and am hoping for the best.
I started with a very short variety list and kept it that way, never to be greedy.
I'm still in it for the long haul...
The one good thing that I personally will take from all this negativity is that
I know exactly who NOT to deal with in the future...

TEAM JAMES!!!

Here's a new area we've just built. These tables have enough room to hold 3,000 young fig plants, and the space under the tables is enough to hold 4,000+ cupped up figs in humidity bins. The plan is to run 2x4 boards across the top and hang grow lights from them. We have 50 humidity bins stacked up in our house eagerly waiting for this space.

We experienced a deep freeze about 3 weeks ago where we got down to around -6F, which caused the young trees and cuttings in this area to be frosted (the ones floating in the swimming pools were not frosted because of all that bottom heat and water vapor). At the time, we didn't have any more electrical capacity to heat with; we were already maxed out. So we hired an electrician who replaced our 100 Amp breaker box with a 200 Amp version and added some more outlets. Now we have the ability to heat this area and keep it well above frost even on the coldest nights. And on a positive note: the plants that were frosted have rebounded and pushed out new leaves, so it looks like they'll make a full recovery.

Here are some updated pics from some of the figs growing under grow lights in another tunnel:

****************

I wanted to point out a few varieties that I'm furthest behind on.  If you have a chance to get these varieties from elsewhere, you may want to do so, because I might not have them ready for you until the Fall.  I intend to buy a lot of cuttings from Harvey to help fill the gaps on my own production line, and because of that wildcard it's hard for me to say when certain varieties will and won't be ready.  But given how far behind I am on these varieties and how pricey some of them are, it's likely that I won't be able to make up enough ground during Harvey's sale to get these to you this spring.

I-258
Figo Preto
NdA/HdA (I have lost dozens of these--strong tops but no or weak roots)
Maltese Beauty
Bass' Favorite
There may be others but those are the ones that are the biggest problem.

There are also some varieties that are growing and reproducing well, but that are behind pace due to sheer quantity:  Black Madeira, Ponte Tresa, and Galicia Negra are the main ones that spring to mind.

**********

I again want to apologize to the entire forum for all the stress and frustration that this project, and my far-from-perfect execution of it, has caused.  I continue to be 100% "all in" on this project, and remain fully committed to doing whatever it takes to make it a success, regardless of how much work or cost is required.

Things may look dark from the outside looking in, but here at ground zero there is a strong sense of excitement and optimism because of how well things are starting to go.  Things are really ramping up here, and with all the infrastructure improvements and added space, we should be able to handle it and keep everything growing at full speed regardless of the outside weather.

The double-layers of poly on the new tunnels were all inflated around the end of November, well before the deep cold arrived.

James,
Thanks for the update.  I appreciate your positive attitude in the face of adversity.  I don't believe I have remember one critical word in any of your posts.  That sort of spirit is what makes this forum a fun place to be.  As my football coach used to say "keep your chin up".

Excellent. Now we know what we suspected all along, that James is taking care of Business, literally. The little figs in tunnels are good shape to survive the winter.

James, are you going to add this part of your update to FigCuttings.com ?  I think the people who bought from your website that don't use this forum need to know this too.

If only we could combine the Figo Preto and Black Madeira orders into one group, since they are the same variety! ;)

Not all of us agree with that sentiment... but that's a topic for another thread :)

I wouldn't call it negative, I'd call it presenting the facts honestly.
