Gosh Jon, now I feel greedy. If it will help to spread the joy, I will take my chances on just one scion of each type and that way perhaps you can satisfy other orders.

I thought it goes without saying that i'd rather have 1 or 2 than none. So if a rare plant has 3 cuttings I"d be happy to get 1 and get it out to others as well. OTOH, when I have 3 cuttings and they all root I'm not going to keep all 3. Some have to go to family but some will circulate here or ebay with a notice here. The plastic bag method has been very reliable.

It depends on what you want. If you need to have the hot "rare" thing, chances are not good. But, on the other hand, there are hundreds of very good figs that people bypass, hoping to score the rare one, when they could have something that is just as good, in many cases, that just doesn't get the hype. Not saying they are all the same, but there is a lot of good eating to be had, even if you don't have one of the 6 or 7 that everyone is trying to get. ;-))

So what does it mean when your list says something like:

nnn Hollier NOT

Does it mean you were told it was a Hollier but it turned out to be something else?  Thanks.

rcantor,

>>> Does it mean you were told it was a Hollier but it turned out to be something else?

Yes, 'something' like that.

I can chime in about that particular Hollier_Not fig (org. SSE: GA IN C 06; -

then simply described as: "another newer fig, from friend, from Louisiana."),

since I was the (indirect) source for it.

See post#'s 15, 17, 19, 23, 24 :

http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Hollier-Sweetness-Worst-to-First-2143390

It is a good fig and most probably, it is a True (color-moody) Hollier after all...

[Pl. also note the taste-moody (Worst to First) p/o heading of the above thread.]

Jon ,
Do you have a top ten list of figs that "just don't get no respect"
That is the excellent ones that get passed over for the hot rare thing ?
Ones that make you say , "I can't believe these haven't been snapped up already" ?

I just realized that as I just cut and pasted from the first list to my request that I ended up taking all the cuttings of 1, maybe two varieties because I pasted the numbers in parentheses along with the number and name.

lol....

Numbers in parentheses are just accession information.

I had left those #'s too when I cut and pasted from the list. Since I had to get the list from someone else, I did not receive the direction/info portion of the cutting list. I must of drove Jon crazy with at least 2 emails I wrote to him thinking I may have requested 2 or 3 orders of a variety because I left those #'s on there not understanding that they were just accession #'s. LOL!

Sorry about that again, Jon!

Alteast today I was able to access the list link on the site for the first time. So I think I will be able to access the 2nd list when it comes down.

Thanks again for all the people who helped foward me a list to make my order last week.

Would love to see posts on the "top 10 under appreciated fig varieties"! Great idea!

Christy

The second list is up - it's at the same place the first was.  If you d/l'd it since Jon's post saying the second list was up then you got the second list which includes all the leftovers from the first list  :)  Also the name of the document is something like 'second list'

Overlooked:

Negronne
Strawberry Verte
Beale
Narragansett
Saratoga
Paradiso
278-128
Ventura
Samoa Sunshine
Black Mission "NL"
Panache
...just for starters.

The greener cuttings I would start immediately. The harder ones could wait if you want. I'm all for starting them when they are as fresh as possible.

This is hilarious!  I'm glad it tastes great even if it's moody.  Thanks for passing the specimen on so I could get one  :)  It's great to know the lineage of the wood.

Did everyone see the instructions to put the requests in numerical order?  I sent mine in really fast but didn't read the new instructions.  By the time I saw the instructions it was 2 days later.  I'll be lucky to get coal in my stocking  :(

For cuttings from the fridge it often takes 3-5 weeks to see the first roots.  What's the time frame for cuttings like Jon's where they were about to break dormancy and were never all that cold?

Thanks.

Me too have some problems spelling most French fig names...

Personally, I simply assosiate this one with the aka "Monster" name for an easy remembering.

I think, that by later to night I will have packed with all orders that were received up until Friday 2/3. If you have not heard from me by noon tomorrow, send me an e-mail.

As of today, all paid orders have been shipped, by USPS Priority mail, so all should be delivered by Thursday.

Tried to finish it last night, but fell asleep in the middle of it. Should get it done this evening.

The rush is over, and I have made enough people unhappy over not getting Rouge de Bordeaux and a few other favorites.

As of last night all paid orders have been shipped, and I have contacted anyone whose payment has not been received. There have been a few glitches with Paypal payments being delayed in posting for some unknown reason. Anything paid by 2:00 pm PST (Paradise Standard Time) today will be shipped today.

At this point if you have not had a response, then your e-mail/order probably went to to limbo, Please resend.

The last (3rd) list is posted.

All paid orders have been shipped and all outstanding orders have been contacted. If you have not been contacted about your order, it has probably gone to fig limbo and you will need to contact me and probably resend it.

If it is on the new list, it may still not be available, I have\ removed all varieties known to be sold out, but i ever changing, and I have undoubtedly not recorded everything along the way.

Rex,
My emails to Jon seem to end up in his spam folder as well.   I don't know what it is about my email address that triggers the spam alert but it does.
So as a backup I will email him through the forum by clicking on his user id, then a box will pop up and I can select "send email".  I usually wait a week or more before I resort to this though.

Don't know where the problem is. I read the e-mails on-line (where they all appear and there is no spam folder to get lost in), and then I read them offline (where there is a spam folder), and I check that as well.

Still some e-mails go to lah-la-land.

Cuttings numbered 2001 and above are still available, for the most part.

Numbers 500 to 1200 are gone, wirth the remaining ones on Ebay. Most of numbers 100-499 that remain will be on Ebay in a few days, as we wind down the 2012 cutting season.
