I thought I would share some pics of an unknown I found last year.I finally managed to speak to the owner,an elderly Italian lady. She confirmed she didn't know the variety but her family brought it from Napoli in Italy as cuttings.

The trees pictured are 10-15 years old!.Bifere variety making large Brebas which ripen July/August,nice sweet and refreshing figgy taste. It performs very well here in ground,no splitting or souring and very productive.Main crop don't always ripen here but they might this year so I will be back to see soon.

I have already had a coupe of suggestions as to what the variety might be.Top possibility so far considering it's Bifere, size of the Brebas, appearance inside and out and it's origin is Fiorone di Terlizzi aka Domenico Tauro (Tauro for short).

Enjoy,suggestions welcome

Like the unknown name. Reminds me of my gramma. We called her nonna. Nice size cuttings you got. Should root for you very well. Big figs too.

Thanks Richie,I thought it only right I put her name in the tag for now.I originally labelled it as Shetland,I always put the street name or suburb on the tag, helps me remember where I found it,but I'm not gonna forget Nonna Maria lol.I might take her an air layer next year of a good green Unknown fig which also came over from Italy, that's if I can master air layering lol.

Brian,do you have Tauro?,I don't think I can ID it positively just yet,but a consensus is slowly building lol.I don't know many people who are growing this one, which surprises me considering the size of the Brebas and how well it seems to do here with our short summers and low heat/sun/growing hours.

Seeing this makes me sad that the cutting you sent me didn't root. That's a massive trunk, good find Haroon.

Congratulation, you find a good fig tree.

If it is tauro, it is good tree, in warmer area, Its breba fig can go to 300G size.

You can buy cuttings from Harvey C as well

Hi Ricky, thanks, whatever it is it's the most productive tree I've come across here and that's good enough for me.

I've struggled to find leaf pictures of this variety,it's one I know a couple of people in the states have but it's still pretty rare outside Italy.

Harvey posted ripenfig pics on his Facebook page, they aren't exactly like mine(colouration) but the growing conditions are radically different so that's no surprise.If/when I order from Harvey I might get Tauro from him to compare/verify.Alternatively I could try to get some from Italy.

It will be interesting to see how it looks for Ben in Seattle as his conditions are a bit more similar to mine.
