This year i finally could appreciate fully a good crop of my Paraíso, a one crop Common that is ranking very high in the taste tests.

The tree is in a difficult ground (pure clay) and took six years to reach the actual size.

It still shows the stress related with the bad location and the lack of some nutrients in the yellowish color of the leaves (curiously, they are almost all one lobbed in this variety).
Next year i will try to take better care of it and give it some of the trace elements it lacks by spraying the leaves with a selected product (fertirrigation doesn't work so well, in these soils)

Last year it produced a few good figs, much later in the season (mid September).
This year, i collected several dozen figs since mid August until last week (and there's more still maturing in the tree)

The skin of these figs is a bit harder than usual, but it tastes good, so you can eat the fig whole.

The taste is excellent. It showed promise a couple of years ago, but this year is much more refined. The closest i can define it, is like eating a very good strawberry jam straight from the jar.

Jaime - The fig looks great, the pics are great, super macro lens you have for those closeup shots.... only thing lacking, in my opinion, is my ability to taste them directly.... Congratulations on a successful growing season for this variety...

Gorgeous photos, Jaime. I wonder whether anyone is growing Paraíso in the U.S.?

Tony,
Thanks. I would be more than happy to send a few for you to taste, but they would arrive spoiled.  They still have to invent something to allow the sense of taste through the internet. :-)

Christine,
I don't think this variety has reached the U.S. yet.

Gary,
I have posted about them only one time, last year. But, this year it has been a bit warmer and so, although the taste as remained the same (just more intense this year) the looks of the fig from one year to the other changed a bit.

Here's a few photos of 2016 (early October)

And now, in August.

Pure concentrated jam. Delicious!

You also have a few very good Portuguese varieties. I still have to find Mel do Algarve over here. It reminds me of my Moscatel Branco but smaller and with a bit darker colored pulp.

Give your plants a few years, Elin, and you will also be a fan of this fig.

By the way, i still have to publish some photos of my Asali. Very nice fig with a very good sweet taste (not watermelon at all). I was pleasantly surprised with it.
I will post a new topic about it when i have the time.
