Subject: How does one win fig plants??? Replies: 29

No no the Nero 600m was that only fig I did that to. I needed a fig to survive the winter up here in WA state. Also I've tracking this plant down for some time. Even emailing the owner of the planet fig website to see where he got his from. Old Camera lens are my usual target.

The key to winning is the last 10 seconds, not 5 days out. If you bid 5 days out that only let the people watching know that someone else is there. Set you budget and a backup limit. I only watch and stay hidden, for those last 10 seconds is key. If you bid $97 I will throw out $120 making sure I beat you by $1 winning at $98. Everyone else who bids in between that will get the "you've been outbid" message. It takes about 3 seconds to change a bid, 3 seconds wasted plus lag. I know the maximum I will be willing to spend before I back out. I'm 23 years old, single, don't drink, smoke, party, or club. So I have money to spend on other things.

The bad side is if that one person gets lucky and bid $119 then I will be forced to pay $120 when I win. Trust me I learned my lesson with that one. I tried bidding $91 on a lens and typed in $9100 by mistake. Normally I would have still won by $1, but someone else messed up too and typed in $9099. what are the chances huh!? Lucky the seller understood the mistake and canceled the bid.

Yes I guess that I'm busted now. LOL Normally I wouldn't bid more than $100 but I wanted a nero 600m so I went over and won in the last 5 seconds. I'm sure people hate me...

won on ebay...im a Ebay snipping waiting to the last 10 seconds to cast my bid. I swoop in betting $100 sometimes out bidding whoever else before they can punch in a higher bid. works 99% of the time

Subject: Genoa cuttings on ebay. Replies: 0

If any one wants many cuttings for a good price. They are said to be Genoa which was Identified by someone else. So order at own risk as it might not be Genoa, but another white fig. I ordered on Sunday, they shipped the next day(Monday) and I received them today(Wednesday). The cuttings are thick and thin and are in greats condition. If you are just getting started with figs or just want some more then I would buy from this seller.

I got 11 great cuttings with two have large figs on them. I covered the ends in wax as I will store them for next season. I might give two a go to grow under my grow lights. I want to test something using those lights.

-I do not know this seller in anyway, shape, or form. I just thought it was a good deal to try and share.

10 cuttings: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fig-Tree-Cuttings-10-woody-Genoa-/271234363134?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f26d3eefe

5 cuttings: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fig-Tree-Cuttings-5-woody-Genoa-/271236678663?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f26f74407

They also have their own website they seem to have started a few months ago. I purchased from their sit to show support. They say that that they have 12 figs to sell, but the site is only showing the Genoa.

my negronne looks nothing the top. It looks more like vdb's leaf pattern. Unless those are juvenile leaves on your Negronne

whats wrong with microwaving? unless you have those little fertilizer balls that might explode then there is nothing wrong with it. All it does is excite the electrons heating whatever is inside, thus cooking any life forms. Unless breakdown of the good stuff happens. Some nurseries do it while othersbuse steam.

Well I killed it. My soil didnt have enough drainage so it rotted. It seems that since I made this thread there has been a lot of people bidding on these trees from ebay. I won't be getting another since price are going higher than what I paid for the first one and until it is proven not to be a celeste. However it was a nice airlayered tree, the latest one on fleabay has the best roots yet.

I'm about to try this right now. I have a Negronne that doesn't want to grow anymore, two months and no new growth. Maybe I can get the suckers to spring to life at the base.

However you could get a new legendary fig from it. You never know what you might get. That one seed could hold so much potential, it will take time to identify the figs.

Sand can break up the habit of the clay holding water. Organics matter can also help make the soil more loomy and soft.

Well I thought the tree was bigger actually. With a tree that size I would dig it up and move to a different spot to be safe. If the soil is contaminated it can take a long time for it to clear up. Also when you move it I would add some organic soil in the next hole you dig. You soil looks robbed of nutrients and mostly clay or sand. Doing so might help your tree grow back faster and healthy. If you can't move it just give it time.

Remove all leaves and any stems that may be contaminated. I don't know what chemical it was, but most likely it can get taken in through the plants surface. If it was in a pot I would remove the soil just in case any got in there.

Pictures would help as we don't know how big your tree is. But I'm guess that it is a single trunk tree.

Something that is porous and light so it drains fast but not too fast. Peat moss mixed with organic matter to hold water seems to work for me. Of course I add perlite to the mix along with bonemeal, bloodmeal, worm castings, etc.

The next mix I want to try is Nulife Organic Potting soil which is sold at the garden stores here.

Yes you could cut it, but it would be easier to care for the cutting if you let it harden first.
Where in Washington do you live? I don't find many fig growers in my area.

The way the economy is going I will stay the full 20 years. The downside to that is my love of figs. I'm set to deploy in the up coming year soon. During that time I will have no one to look after my trees. We deploy to Kyrgyzstan 99% of the time, hopefully they have figs for me to bring back. In order for me to keep my hobby alive i must deploy during the winters months when my trees are dormant and freeze my butt off while working. If I can't choose then I must find someone to care for them while I'm away if I leave during the summer months.

Im the USAF will take me to a country with figs. There is a fig tree on ebay from Iraq, the sellers father brought it back during the operation Iraqi Freedom. Stories like that is my light on the end of the tunnel.

My collection is made up of: Nero 600m, Negronne, Alma, Afganistanica, Sal's, and a UNK. Just a small collection to keep me sane and busy.

For it's cold hardy figs without a doubt. I don't have the space or luxury required to make my collection as large as I would like. If I wasn't in the military I would've settled down somewhere with a backyard. I go for whatever non so common figs I can get. Mostly dark figs for me.

Celestial has a darker color, golden brown to brown. That doesn't look like celestial. Anyhow I would wait a little longer if it is celestial.

Great video, but some of the questions were getting on my nerves. Questions that they could have answered themselves if they put some thought to it. "Does a dormant tree need sun" What? Really. It has no leaves.

Subject: Is this root knot nematode? Replies: 24

They could maybe spread within the tree's water vascular tunnels. They will most likely end up back in the roots. I think the actaully nematode is too big, but the eggs might make it. I wouldn't try it at all.
Would you take a diseased organ for a organ transplant?

Hopefully someone who is an expert on grafting will comment.

RKN are worms that live in the roots. If you cut open one of the root knots you should see tiny tiny worms come out. They live in the roots. Taking a cutting or air-layering won't transfer them to the new tree.

Does the hole in the side really help? I'm guessing it is to air prune the roots to force them to branch out.

Take cutting and re-root and destroy the soil in the pots. You can throw it away or if you want to reuse it nuke it.

make sure you ship it fast. I won a tree from a member of this site and still haven't recieved it 8 days later. Hopefully it survived over the 4th of july weekend. Another tree from Texas made it to Washington state in 3 days. make sure roots are well wetted and shipped fast as possible.

just remember that the pitaya is a cactus. they root very fast as some root grow out of nowhere along the plant. Thay also uses those to grab a hold of something as they grow because they get very top heavy. If I had the space I would grow one. YouTube should have on growing them.
