Yellowing leaves can be a sign of nitrogen deficiency. That can also explain the slow down of growth.

Try not to use burnt wood that used chemicals to burn it. Wood can be good in moderation.

Man I'll be surprise if they produce anything. That soil looks so depleted of any nutrients. Thing again figs will adapt.

Yeah that is true. Right now I'm searching cities that might have European immigrants. Maybe one can be lucky.

Yeah the engine isn't the smartest. I just used "fig", "fig tree", "figs" in the gardening section or the for sale. If I could get that tree on the left for just $10 then I'm down. The leaf looks interesting, he said it goes by the name of "Alexandria" but I couldn't find it in the database. Most likely just renamed. However if he is from Europe then I'm golden.

I also check every surrounding city that I wouldn't mind traveling to also.

I was interested to see who was selling figs on the web so I decided to search around on CL. I found one seller that lives a few minutes from my house. I decided to search my hometown of Houston, TX and I sound so many owners selling trees. The attached picture below is what I found from one owner selling 2-4 foot cutting in three gallon pots. Heck I'm sending that guy a email, just to see if he would ship some cuttings.

I would be so awkward if that person was a active member here. However with a tree that big they would've posted about it.

So just try looking next to your city to see what you can find. Might find some interesting trees.

You might want to remove the leaves since they didn't seem to have much if any root growth.

How long does it take for the bone meal to take affect? I read that it takes time because it has to break down first.

Could be too much nitrogen forcing the green growth to grow super fast sacrificing strength in the process. Just a theory.

Subject: Air Layering advice -- should I do it and when? Replies: 4
Posted By: americanfiglover Views: 619

Yes you can do it. There is a thread now about air-layering the truck with great success. I would say start now since it is so thin it shouldn't take long to root. Leave some nodes on the bottom to grow new leaves.

I think I added too much to the soil which attracted flys which in turn laid eggs. Now I might change out the whole soil mixture. I dont believe the flys will harm the tree.

sounds great. I had to cut it back to about 8 inches and placed it in sphagnum moss to see if it will root. There was still sap inside when I cut it, I also placed wax on the ends. I still have hope. I messed that one up pretty quick.

I'm going to check to see if more root grew back. If not I'm going to cut back the branches. That's a big tree. How does the fruit taste?

My tree isn't doing so well right now. I gave it too much water and some of the roots died. I trimmed them back, removed the rotting parts of the branch and replanted. I'm waiting for sign of life.

How does one add something to the map? There was a tree back in Houston. Tx that I wish I could get to again. Those cuttings rooted so fast and were so vigorous. If someone live in Houston and can get to it I would pay for them. I never got a chance to taste the fruit because I joined the military and gave those away.

I'm 100% sure that you have it backwards. Bloodmeal is high in Nitrogen, with fish emulsion being more balanced in NPK and also having micro nutrients.

Thank you both. I gave two of my trees some blood meal, but I haven't seen any growth in two weeks. Maybe I should pinch those figs off to help just in case.

Once I give the trees a few more watering to allow the blood meal to work it's way into the trees I will try the fish emulsion.

Plants need a dark period to stay healthy. They stop the photosynthesis process after about 8-10 hours. They also produce CO2 and take in O2 during the night.

I tried something similar with some large cutting. Maybe not on the same scale as yours but close enough.

Just use a old GMC workout protein container filled it with dirt left it in my closet for a week and bam roots. The soil was damp enough for it to stick together, but not enough for water to squeeze out.

This was four years ago though. I really miss those cuttings. :(

I remember hearing and seeing great results using this soil, but I can't seem to find it for cheap anymore. Four years ago I purchased a bag and it was cheap, now shipping shoots the price up to around $60-$200. Is there a reason for the dramatic increase in price?

I can't find a single place online to order from. Do people still use it?

what about blood meal and bone meal for nitrogen and phosphorus? Then again the organic compost and manure should have some of that.
