From Mallorca,Spain i have 3 new promising varieties in my collection: Planera,Col de Dama Rimada and Martinenca Rimada.Planera is 1 year old,with figs on it.Thanks for looking and happy gardening!

I was very sad early in spring when my Jolly Tiger froze up in 2 nights of 28 degrees,losing all leaves and new buds.Now he's recovering well and putting some   figs on it.

Hardiest....is Florea and an unknown serbian varietie,these two have 0-zero die back,but...they are planted 3 ft from my house!All the rest are...feathers in a wind,God didn't create them for 0 to 15 fahrenheit....you should protect them every winter,and it's gonna cost you money,time and a LOT of work!!When everything is done,april is here,you uncover the trees,waiting for brebas crop,and one or two nights like yesterday....asta la vista,baby!!
I did this for 3 years in a row and when i found out that even my neighbor's dog is laughing at me every fall and spring...i let it go...Good luck to you,guys!!...time to move south...

No,not anymore, Mike.Cost to protect them is too high...I prune them in fall for cuttings,and everything larger than 2" in diam,stays inground for the whole winter...

Calvin,i do have about 30 varieties inground,around my house:hardy chicago,marseille vs black.salem dark,salem white,black greek,florea,red and yellow lebanese,some afghan varieties,bayernfeige violeta,giant black german,tacoma violet,black spanish,sweet george,duemane,celeste belleclare(very hardy),nero600,pastiliere,sultane,black bethlehem,danny's delite + some other no names...

I woke up this morning,made my coffee,went out to check my trees and came back with tears in my eyes(my wife still believe that i love my figs more than her...),Mother nature hit again,some 29 degrees last night....why,why am i living in Ohio?????

I just got three beautiful cuttings of this cultivar(Spain).Before starting the rooting process...does anyone grow this varietie??...I've heard that it may be the Panache fig....but the pictures shows a very deep red interior and nice stripes,similar to Martinenca Rimada.Thanks.

My 4 years old Violeta Bayernfeige is a productive tree,very cold hardy,but...after 3 full seasons, i would give her a 6 out of 10....many other good figs out there!!!

Had it for four years in my back yard,in zone 6...it is NOT cold hardy,died to me at 15 deg Fahrenheit(inground) and needs a long and hot summer to get some ripe fruits.Now,he's resting in figs heaven....
