Cool tree NIC ,  Nice family story .

Nic you said you thought  this tree was from a colder region or mountainous area , have you shared this tree with any growers in colder zones like 5 , 6 or 7 ?
If so does it still give breba and does the main crop ripen early ?

Have you or someone you shared with tested this cultivator to see if it is suitable for pot culture ?

Here is the diagram I was looking for .

I have some long skinny trees with few branches . I will try this to see if it induces some branches

pinching did not do the trick .

I was considering  Negronne because of its compact size and early ripening ...good for growing in pots .

This Emalyn's Purple seems to get larger described as 20' .. I wonder if its an early ripening variety ?

OK  a few weeks ago I ran across a post about I think stimulating side branching ?

Some one mentioned cutting a nick above or below a node to stimulate branching   ? another member posted an illustration showing how to do it .

This illustration showed  cutting a nick above or below a node , one would stimulate branching one fruiting  ?

I thought I had book marked the post but I guess I did not ..

I tried searching but can't find post .

Does any one have link to this post or the illustration ??

thanks

well  that's cool wonder were that tree is located .

I probably will never try in ground ..?? who knows
I guess I should have said in original post I wanted best recommendations for best figs for " pot cultures " and shorter growing season ..?
I wonder how my trees will do in the Wal-Mart  SIP pots 17.2"x1 5.4"  $8.86 +tax  They are made in USA by SUNCAST.

I have decided to keep them in permanently my rough guess minus the water reservoir they hold 10 to 13 gallon of soil . I will root prune every three to 5 years ??

The last three or 4 years in the fall when the potted figs started losing leaves I have stored them in a cool dark basement room an watered then about once a month .
they start to wake up end of march first of April .
Then they come up to the sun room for the fig shuffle outside whenever its above 50f .

here I will try and post a photo of the wal-mart. version I measure it 17.2"x1 5.4"  $8.86 +tax

They are made in USA by SUNCAST.

The plastic/ polystyrene seems a tad sturdier than the HOME Despot version . just a guess .

I wonder how many gallons of soil  one of those 15"x17" Wally World SIP pots hold, once you subtract the water reservoir area ?

HEY EGGHEAD

I got a 1/2 gal of super duper hi quality tan paint in THE "oops mixed the wrong color"  section of  Lowes for $5 . saved about $12 on the cost of the paint .

So .......the six  larger size 15" tall 17" in diameter SIP pots  are now about $10 apiece with cost of paint added to each one .

I   am  hoping they will last a long time .

I will paint the outside and about 2" of inside lip .

I will let you know in 5 or ten years ha

The plastic seems a tad flimsy . I bought some tan latex paint fro the oops mixed te wrong color shelf .

I have some like the ones rewton posted but they switched to a different brand here that are not so tall .

I will be trying the   larger size is about 15" tall 17" in diameter $8.95

Wal-Mart has a similar product, the large size is about 15" tall 17" in diameter $8.95

I have my six trees in smaller sizes of same pot They are nice pots  .

I am up potting them all to the 15"x17" soon.

I might paint them first so they last longer .
