Subject: FIGS in Peru? Replies: 12
Posted By: baust55 Views: 1,579

I'm taking a trip to Peru in a few weeks ,one location listed on my itinerary between the usual  Spanish Church's and Inca ruins is an orchard in the sacred valley between Cuzco and Macchu Pichu ...........and another is a collective  farm on the coast south of Lima ,i wonder if they grow FIGS ?

The Spanish  introduced figs to Peru in 1528 (Acosta 1590; Tamaro 1920).
I'll be in Lima so i hope to see this.
The oldest living fig tree in the New World, the Pizarro Tree, was planted around 1538 at the governor's palace in Lima, Peru.

Glad you pointed out the wheeled kart Tom .
That certainly would make moving the big ones in and out of the garage a much simpler chore.
