Pino,
no fig will survive in our zone without protection ,  6a is much colder that zone 6.I have tried so many different varieties with minimum protection ,and always being very disappoiment ,I store all my figs in a detached garage and cover them very well with old blankets ecc.but some years many dont make it,do the prolonged cold days that we have in zone 6a.Ciao

Bob,
you are very correct the wind plays a big role ,my figs survive the winter here with no damage,
but i do cover them,my Gentile that is a breba only in my area is full of figs walnut side already.
My garage is made of concrete blocks ,anyway still looking for a cold hardy fig for my area 6a so they
say.I WAS Able to have 4 different figs survive outiside planted on the ground,I only covered them with
a 55 gallon drum only,i did drill two holes in the sides so they would not mold on me.Ciao,
Giuseppe

Mike,
I leave in Spencerport NY seven miles oway from Rochester ny.Over the years I have
tryed many fig trees in the ground with minimum protection,to name a few Marsille ,
B.T. and Celeste from Miller Nursery,Negretta ecc.none has survived in my area.I have
a nice Florea that i will try next in two more years, hope it will survive here.So my figs
are all potted I use 55 plastic gallons that I cut in half and to make things easy for me
they all are on wheels and store them in my detached unheated garage for the winter.Ciao,
Giuseppe
