I have about 12 potted fig trees that I got maybe a month ago. A neighbor let me dig up several rooted suckers/ root sections from her established trees. I believe they are black mission but not sure ATM. They have all put on a decent bit of growth in the pots . 10 or so leaves a piece. I have them in a unheated greenhouse at the moment and according to the almanac should start getting frost by end of October here in Arkansas.

Should I leave them in the pots in a unheated greenhouse till spring?

Will this allow them to still drop leaves and go dormant?

Or should I plant them in the ground already and mulch well. So far most of the figs I've planted always die back where I live in 7a

I got about 15 rooted peices off of a neighbors tree and put them in potting soil. The first few days they kinda looked up and down but now seem to be staying pretty perky . I trimmed down a lot of the leaves at first so it can focus on recovery. And have been keeping them in the shade.

My question is...I have a greenhouse that is fairly warm but vented. Is it beneficial to move them into the sunny greenhouse or should I keep them in the shade longer.

Hello wonderful fig people again. I have been away for a few years but I have now finally settled in a permanent house and I am hoping to find some Chicago hardy, Celeste and any other cold hardy fig tree cutting to try!

Sadly I seem to only have east and west facing areas of the house to plant on.... One north spot but it's very open to a wooded area and I fear deer lol.

Thank you
