Paul I'm glad you liked the moscatel preto one of my favorites and I'm thinking of putting it inground one day.

Norella is by far my best mt etna type fig as much as I like the colasanti dark the norella is by far superior in taste. Ate 2 dozen with my daughter today she loves them.

Thanks Dennis, yours looks great too. These unfortunately do split bad with rain for in terms of flavor it's got an intense berry flavor.

Francisco this fig came from Porto I'm not sure why they call it that up north because moscatel preto and bêbera preta are generally the same this is a different fig and not inferior in anyway.

Paul it is very productive for me and if ripened during hot dry weather it is among the best figs I have tasted.

Thanks everyone, It does have one of those white greek, stella, dalmatie or vasilika sika sort of appearance and could possibly be one of them. My inground tree ripened one fig very late last year around Halloween and didn't taste anything special as far as I can remember but then again nothing did that time of year. It is very hardy my tree was 3 months old from being rooted when it went inground and wrap it with burlap and tarp and no die back but it does take some time to fruit for some reason.

I will take some pics of the ripe fruit.

Hey Eli, things are a bit better just started a new job 3 weeks ago so far so good.

Family is doing good, how have you and your family been?

I have been growing Bêbera Branca from Madeira for a couple years now a fig I grew up eating and am very familiar with. I never imagined the climate in Canada could make a fig look so different.

first 10 pictures are from my great grandfathers tree in Madeira and what the figs should look like.

the rest are figs that ripened in Canada. Cuttings were taken from my great grandfathers tree and brought in 2009 I believe.

I was simply stating that the figs I remember eating in Madeira known as bacorinho resembled the strawberry fig from almosteden not the fig you discovered.

Bacorinho I remember does not have a long neck like your unk Madeira 1

Francisco the pics you posted look more like the bacorinho as I remember been a long time since I ate them atleast 23-24 years but I remember it having a short neck and red pulp. Also makes an early breba that is very good flavored.

Tam it's a strawberry type fig, the closest fig I had to date even leaf was very close from what I remember was strawberry fig from almostedenplants I lost that plant over winter and definately want a replacement.

Francisco you beat me, I was just going to say just that this fig is more than likely Bacorinho and I had my cousin driving around madeira Island for 2 years to find one. He sent me 2 cuttings but unfortunately both eventually died.

Bacorinho is a very rare fig in Madeira today sadly, considering they are probably the best white figs on the island.

I will try to get new cuttings next year of the bacorinho and hopefully locate an Anjinho fig tree while im at it.

Bob the flavor is similar to a sals corleone it's sweet very juicy and fruity. This particular plant survived outdoors 2010/11 winter in a pot and still produced a dozen breba that summer. Also larger than the my sals corleone brebas. I also noticed the Nardi blk generally ripens a week or two earlier than sals corleone.

Thanks John trying to visit the forum as often as possible when I'm not babysitting or working.

In 2010 or 2011 I purchased this fig as well from edible landscaping had 2 or 3 figs last year but sadly i ate a coll de dame blanc first so i don't really recall the flavor. Not very big in size but they are hardy.

Hey Paul, I agree with you. Allot of the first variants I got still remain better tasting that the fancy named figs.

Enrico and Nardi blk specially since 2011 those two have not disappointed me yet productive and tasty brebas and main crop. I too neglected them at first and boy did I learn my lesson another jewel is michals westmore Greek very good and productive.

Great looking fig Paul, I grew this one for 3 years and never fruited since I had so many supposedly better figs in my collection I discarded it what a mistake.

Tyler if you leave it on the tree until it has sugar spots it's actually very sweet but I had issues with ants entering the ostiole and spoiling the figs. I dug my inground tree this spring and have in a pot now but last year main crop was weighing anywhere between 90-100 grams.

In previous years colasanti farms sold 3 different figs sold as Italian fig one is dark similar to hardy Chicago but better flavored in my opinion.

2nd fig was a big yellow fig with an open eye and hollow centre flavor is pretty good but nothing special it resembles the Armenian fig possibly the same.

3rd fig is also a white fig very similar to dalmatie.

This year they introduced two new varieties brown honey looks like Brunswick to me in terms of leaf shape I haven't got to sample any figs yet but leaves are different than the above 3.

Their brown turkey I also have and should have ripe fruit this year.

So in total they have sold atleast 5 different figs in the last 4-5 years and I have all 5 now.

Hi Francisco, these figs look great what's the main differences or similarities between the sofêno escuro and sofêno preto in terms of flavor and productivity?

I have been taking good care of my small sofêno preto and hope to get some figs next season.

James last year I posted pics of my figo preto trunk with the swelling like you mentioned

I too had mentioned to Francisco that violeta resembled black Madeira / figo preto.

I don't think figo preto is a destinct fig from Madeira but an old portuguese variety that through the years lost its original name.
