http://www.womacknursery.com   has the best persimmon trees for around $18-$20  I have ordered about 20 trees last month for me and my friends.  I believe they use D. Virginiana for the rootstock.  Trees are large and healthy.  I was glad I found them.  (Trees were sherten to 6' tall)

I got my Jolly Tiger from Asiatica Nursery which is unfortunately no longer in business.

Dieseler, thank you so much for letting me know how to keep variegation on Jolly Tiger fig.  If I would of know tis trick about a year and a half ago I would of had another big branch with variegated leaves. (live and learn)!!!!!

Thank you,

Anton

Dieseler,

When the limb was small it had few variegated leaves on it at the base(that is why I left it on the tree). When it grew bigger the next season that branch only had leaves that were all green. As I can recall figs(fruits) were identical on bout variegated and all green limbs.  Figs were very testy when fully ripe.  I only had this fig for about 2.5 years and it is one of the strangest and I would say interesting figs that I have.  I am keeping a close eye on this one to see what it will do this season since the all green section is gone.   I guess I will try to promote more growth from variegated section of the tree. Dieseler, how old is your Jolly?  I saw your video. It is grate.  I have watched it about 100 times :-)

Thank you guys for your advices.  I have another question to ask.  Is it ok to plant bare root persimmon trees in ground at this time of the year in VA?

Thank you,

I just thought I would share some of the pictures I had on my cell phone.   First three pictures is my Jolly Tiger fig, the green one is Deanna (very large one).  Last picture is a mulch and the composted horse manure with wood shavings pile that I brought for my in ground fig trees.  Does anyone know what is the best time of the year to apply compost?

Good day, I have a question to ask.  I have planted about 15 fig trees outside about a week ago and most of tem had about 1”- 2” new growth on them.  Last few nights we had about 33F temperature here in Richmond, VA so I had put the plastic bags on them.  This morning I took the plastic off and found out that almost all of the new growth were damaged/killed.  Please advice on what I should do…. Do I just live it alone and see what happens or should I brake off all the killed new growth?  I know I should have not used plastic bags in the first place but I was afraid to put anything heavy on them do to fragility of the new leaves.  I have about 3” of mulch around them so I know that the roots should be fine?  Can that kind of damage kill one year old fig trees?

Thank you in advance,

Anton

I have purchased about 10 fig varieties from http://www.treesofjoy.com and can tell you with all the honesty that I will be ordering more from Mr. Bassem in the future.   He has some varieties that are very rare and impossible to find. (I spend hours online trying to find new additions to my collection)  I do check his availability page every day to see if there are any new varieties for sale.  Mr. Bassem does provide fast shipping and packaging is superb, not one fig damaged in shipping.

I just thought I will share my experience with everyone else and for new members that are looking for new varieties.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experience of this wonderful world of figs.

Thank you JSVAND5,  I got one from them and the plant was healthy but small it will take a long time to see any results.

BLB... when plant gets bigger does variegation goes away? Do you see it on all the branches? How big are your trees and can you post or send me some pictures, I would love to see it.  Thanks every one for the information.
