I haven't had a problem that I can tell with fruit drop.  I do try to keep them watered during dry periods.  Dan, my other grandparents fig trees died out about the same time. They were pretty large trees. I think the hard freezes in the 80's took their toll on them.

I rooted the first tree about 20 years ago. That tree is at I house I sold. I have a couple of trees about 10 years old and a couple 6 years old. This year I rooted about 15 trees. The original  tree I took the cutting from died in the 90's. It was probably 60+ years old.

This tree came from a cutting off an old tree on my Grandparent's place. I figured it was a Celeste since that is the most common fig in Louisiana. What is your opinion?

I have a relative from northeast Tennessee visiting and I am giving him a couple of  young  Celeste fig trees started from cuttings this spring. They are about a foot tall in gallon pots. I'm in Louisiana and was wondering if you all have any advice for planting a fig tree that far north.

Is there a best time of year for doing air layering?  Can it be done while the tree is dormant?

Do you think an air layered  or rooted cutting makes the best progress as a fig tree or is there no difference? Also, are most fig trees sold at nurserys from air layered or from rooted cuttings?

I had an air layered cutting that was wilting the morning after I potted it. . I misted all the leaves with a spray bottle and it perked up and has done well since.

I have an air layered fig that I potted about 2 weeks ago. I have been keeping it in the shade and spraying the leaves with a spray bottle 2 or 3 times a day. I'm also using a moisture meter to check the moisture daily.  I have been keeping my rooted cuttings from this year in partial shade and  checking them daily with the moisture meter.

I use calcium nitrate for my nitrogen fertilizer on my citrus. It's 15% nitrogen and 15% calcium. They sell it at the feed store in 5 pound bags for about $5. I also use it on my tomatoes to help prevent blossom end rot with the calcium. Dan, please share your trick for satsumas in March.

I would also try to keep my speed as low as possible without causing  a problem. 60 mph is much better than 70.

I need to pot up some started cuttings that I have growing in a big tub. I want to pot them to 1 gallon pots. What would be a good mix to plant them in?  I have vermiculite, composted pine bark, peat moss, cotton bur compost and Expert potting soil available.   Also, when a cutting grows 2 branches from the main stem, do you remove one of them?  Thanks
