yeah 35-40 is ideal I made the mistake of bringing a few of them inside and I left them in my basement and they came out of dormancy too early and it seemed like the plants growth cycle was thrown all out of wack.  My garage has no heat but it is connected to the house by a breezeway that is also unheated but I'm sure the heat from the house radiates into the garage keeping the trees warm.

Andrew I had the plant in my garage that dosent have any heat and all my fig trees seemed to do ok. I would say it gets down into the 20's here where I am along the shore in Ct. not quite as cold as vermont that's for sure.

I ate a breba fig in july from a marseilles vs tree I had purchased from Herman last year on ebay and it was very sweet I'm waiting for the main crop to ripen.  Wow I never really realized how cold hardy this cultivar is that is good to know since I live in the northeast in freezing connecticut!!

damp spaghnum moss in a zip loc bag is the key to getting the cuttings to root and like jason said until you see some actual roots penetrating from the cuttings I would just leave them alone just keep them in a warm place where there is no light and air the bag out every day and the cutiings should start to root without a problem. I wish you sucess!!!!

oh I never knew there was proper squrirel hunting etiquette bow, bb gun, shotgun, rifle, a claymore mine either way it's a dead varmint ha ha ha lmao!!!! Last I checked arrows don't exactly discriminate against what they hit!!!! A miss shot arrow is more likely to kill or seriously injure someone than a bb gun! ha ha ha bow is the "gentlemens way" too funny!!

I hate to say it but it sounds to me that rot has allready set in on the roots it is probably to late to try and reverse the problem!! sorry!! try again with soil that is about 70% perlite and 30% soil and make sure there is more than enough holes for maximum drainage.

Hey Nelson here is a Italian secret passed down from my great grandmother she used to use panty hose cut in thin strips to tie up her tomatoe plants because it will stretch while the plant grows bigger while string will cut into the plant and dosen't allow more room for growth. hope this helps you!!!!

I hear you pam once you have a fresh fig straight from a tree you become kind of spoiled lol!!  I'm not gonna lie I do buy fresh figs when the grocery store has them but the problem is the farmers pick them before they are totally ripe so they never taste as good as if they are left on the tree to ripen not to mention they are EXPENSIVE!! Hey pam private message me with your full name and shipping address I would like to send you a little present that I think you will enjoy!!

angelo just wrap the cuttings in damp paer towel and put them in a zip lock bag.  Make sure you hide them on your person becuse "smuggeling" any type of plant material through customs is considered a big no no.  I brought back seeds from an amalfi lemon when I visited Italy a couple years ago.  My cousin works for homeland security at JFK and he speaks a little italian so they had an older italian women that just got off the plane from italy. She was in a wheel chair and I guess she was acting a little strange.  They sent my cousin to ask her in italian if she had anything on her person that she should'nt have and she replied no.  My cousin noticed something odd portruding from under her dress turns out she had a small olive tree under her dress!!! ha ha ha lol

Try to keep one it's worth a try who knows it may ripen!! but in my experience when I leave figs on a really young tree they never seem to fully ripen or they end up tasting blah!!  Hey give it a shot you never know!! I have learned the hard way that the first two years of a trees life should be devoted to branch and leaf development rather than fruit production.
