Prof. Aksoy was born in Adapazar, Turkey

in June 1951. She graduated from Ege

University Faculty of Agriculture, Department

of Horticulture in 1974 and worked

at the Horticultural Research Institute in

Eskiehir between 1975 and 1976. In 1976

she started her PhD at Ege University

Department of Horticulture as a fellow of

the Turkish Scientific Research Council.

Assigned as a research assistant in 1978

she received her PhD in 1981, became

Associate Professor in 1987 and Full

Professor in 1995.

Professor Aksoy’s research work concentrates

mostly on pre- and post-harvest

factors affecting fruit quality, lately being

directed more on ecophysiology of fruit

trees. She lectures at the undergraduate

and post-graduate levels and is a staff

member at the Horticulture Department

at Ege University (Izmir, Turkey).

She was among the founders of the

Turkish Horticultural Society and Turkish

Association on Organic Agriculture and

has been Chair of both societies. She was

first elected to the ISHS Board in 1998.

She arranged the hosting of the Board

and Executive Committee meeting in

Turkey in 2001.
