JoeF...
I live on coast of N.C. ,zone 7 , and only plant in-ground , no pots. So, I would be afraid to suggest any figs for your area.
I recently received two new varieties from Durio Nursery.. LSU-Gold and a Beer's Black (Negronne). Both were well rooted in their containers. I always hose the soil off of most, so I can check for root nematodes, then, I plant in my yard, and can say no problems and definately not just sticks with undeveloped root system.
Email Dalton and tell him what you are looking for. He will certainly help you !   Now, I'm going fishing !   Good Luck,  Fred

JoeF..  As to packing of fig trees in one to three gallon pots, it would be difficult to better Durio Nursery in La.
I can say, that Dalton knows and is very concerned about his shipments and condition, when received.  Just adding my "two cents". Fred

Georgiafig.. I also live in zone 7b,on coast. You list some great cultivars. Are they potted or do you grow in the ground ?

Latex ooze spots.. Yellow Jackets sometimes feed on my figs. If not sweet /ripe enough , they do not eat further. But, first bites cause ooze. Also, some beetles bore in on fruits(see the dark spots) and again ooze.
But, that is only my observation, sure could be other factors/reasons.
