If it is Latarulla from EL it is a breba only crop like desert king. I just gave my tree away since I have a desert king.

I would have went with Battaglia Green for white figs although I do like the white marseilles ( neri2) enough to plant it in my small yard.

Bill got them from a guy named Mike Neri. I had both white Marseilles and neri2 growing next to each other and fruit and leaves were exactly identical. The trees were similiar in size but I liked the branching of the Neri2 better and planted it inground and traded away the White Marseilles. The top was winer killed and now it is currently sending shoots up and a branch is growing from the 3ft stump. Last year was its first winter outside and I left it unprotected.

LSU Purple are watery and tasteless until they are several years old. Mine just started tasting reasonable at 4 years old.

That's a fair deal. He doesn't sell them until they are older. He does have some gems there too like atreano, battaglia green, and vdb.

I have both a Sals EL and HC EL and the leaves definitely look different. I bought the HC myself and got Sals EL in trade. I haven't seen fruit from Sals for comparison with HC because this is the Sals first season with me. I will post pictures if you like.

If you put it in a cool dark spot for a couple days it might recover. It will have no shot if you leave it in heat and direct sunlight.

I use 3 parts pine bark mulch(fines) and 2 parts perlite this year for my freshly rooted cuttings to 3 gallon pot size. Just like you the roots and growing like crazy and very healthy looking. I was considering using all pine bark but never got around to it because this was working so well for me.

Has anyone had a ripe fruit off their panache tree in zone 7 or cooler? Mine was a decoration in my yard here in southern New Jersey. Now it is a decoration in Luke's yard. I made a small airlayer before I sent it off and will try it in the greenhouse I am building this fall.

Hi Luke

Composts are great for in ground plants but i am trying to keep my mix draining fast and from what I understand composts will hold tons of moisture. I could be wrong because my compost usage is limited. My mix doesn't even use much Promix anymore 20% or less. Although it is still my goto rooting agent.

I am installing a 4 season greenhouse  this fall. I am putting a heater in there as well. Does anybody grow figs in a greenhouse or extend their season in one? I am wondering if they would taste the same with no direct sunlight.

Here's an update on an early test sample. The mix in parts was 2 pine bark fines, 2 pro mix bx, and 1 perlite with lime and fertilizer mixed in. My current mix is 3 PBF, 2 perlite, and 1-1/2 pro mix bx with lime and fertilizer. For my rooted cuttings no pro mix just 3-2-0. The older the tree the more Pro mix I will add. So far the mixes drain fast and I have no root rot.

Sounds like too much water without seeing any pictures. The plants are probably being overwatered or potting medium is holding too much water or both.

I was very happy with Edible Landscaping a few years ago. I found the trees were in great shape, packaged great, and customer was very good too. Most importantly, I got the right cultivars.

When you bury them completely and horizontally sometimes they root all over the place and you can get two trees.

They are rooted and doing great.

@posturedoc- I do something very similiar except when I go to one gallon pots I bury almost the whole cutting so I don't need a bin. My success rate is also very high. I used to use paper towel method and then sphagnum moss/ Baggie method but this method works great for me ad much less work.

They should be fine. I rarely scrub and wash my cuttings. If they already have initials they will take off fast and RDB grows like a weed.

OK Guys. The list is my wish list not plants that I am trading. I am also interested in Belleclare figs that I don't have already. Sorry I am being picky but I am reaching maximum capacity of fig trees. I told my wife 30 maximum two years ago but now I am closer to 100.

Hi Marcus,
I pack my trees by taping damp paper towels over the top of the mix to keep the mix in place and for moisture. Then I secure the pot into the box so there's no movement.
I ship USPS Priority, although they lost a package this year containing a ronde de Bordeaux and kb. Basically they told me to gfy. Get a tracking # and insure high value plants. They don't give you a free tracking# anymore.

Check the root health on 1 of the victims. If the roots are brown and mushy they are too wet.....and mostly dead. I have transplanted several in this state and about 30% survive. I use 60% pine bark fines and40% perlite for my young cuttings now.

Thanks Al. That post was informative.  I am looking for a compromise. I tried the gritty mix and the roots grew like crazy but I needed to water too much in the summer. I have been toying with different ratios of perlite, promix, and pbf. Do you think 40%pbf, 40% perlite, and 20% promix would help drainage. I just don't have the time to water 100 trees daily.
Thanks
Jason
