francisco,

there is two or three like that. others are more rounder. looking at the pix of other Pastiliere plants, mature leaves should have 5 lobes. mine are still young and so far showing mostly 3. however, you can see some showing sign of a thumb x)

francisco,

i'll post pix of my Pastiliere on another thread. it has some nice looking young figs on them. some are very... not sure what the proper term is, but like turban... flat. i'm keeping the soil moist and not letting it dry out. hope that will help with holding on to the figs.

growing up in NYC, i always carried... 10" chef's knife or a camping hatchet. some of my friends were packing. back in early 80s, long before 9/11, officers were very selective in what sort of issues they wanted to get involved with. as we used to say, "don't get caught, dummy".

art,

i really like to get US made lights, but they are so expensive. they are well made and lasts forever, but i don't have the coins. times like this, it's very tempting to sell figs.. lol

i'm looking at few highly rated chinese flashlights using AAA. they are rather solid. titanium is within reasonable price.

chivas, yes.. 3 bottle opener with one titanium pry bar in case aluminium just doesn't handle the job. the knife is Kershaw Skyline Damascus.

figaro, i have no idea how good the edge retaliation is. that knife only comes out when i'm dressing up and most i cut with is some threads coming out of my shirts. for heavier job, i carry following.

this cuts through cardboard box like a butter.

it seems growing fig is endless waiting.. waiting for the cuttings root.. waiting for the winter to go by.. waiting for the trees to push crops.. waiting for the figs to ripe.. waiting little more for the perfect ripeness. then waiting to eat it.

good thing there are at least figs on the trees to wait for :)

Subject: Keeping roots cool in potted figs Replies: 39

if there is no water restriction, just water to cool the pot. response from the trees are immediate. today the temp went up to 95. leaves were drooping by 3. gave water, in less than an hour, they all perked up.

providing water is not an option, some sort of shade might help... but stress to the tree will still be there. up till last yr, i kept my trees on back deck where they get some shades for the containers. but the leaves will still droop when the temp goes above 90-95.

the containers are always wet. i don't let them go dry when out in the sun. letting them go dry means losing all the leaves, and setting the trees back.

last yr, i got some Panachee cuttings from jon. it was too many, gave away most and kept 3. only one made it. rest all died in 1 gal. i think Panachee is rather sensitive to water.
