Subject: 'Atreano' or 'LSU gold'? Replies: 3

Thanks for the offer of the cuttings but I already have both growing though they are quite small. I am thinking about planting on a very small scale to sell the fruit and I need a good green/yellow variety that is cold hardy in zone 7 and ripens relatively early. Hardy chicago and celeste do very well for me and are excellent tasting but would like to add something a little different.
Where did you get your atreano? Mine came from Rolling River nursery in CA and understand it may be slightly different from the original strain but really have no clue.

I would love to hear from anyone that is growing both of these to see if you have a preference. I am mostly interested in knowing if one is more cold hardy than the other or if one ripens sooner. I am not interested in getting a breba crop. Of course I would love to hear any taste comparisons between these. Thanks for any information.

Salavatski, suhr anor, kazake, kaj acikanor, eight ball, favorite(lyubimi), flora plena, dk from shevlon and state fair all grow well in zone 7.

I have just received a petite negri from edible landscaping so was glad to see it does well for you. Where does one get marseilles black and what does the VS stand for? I read somewhere on a messageboard recently that this is another name for hardy chicago? Have you heard this? I have also seen people say that sals is also the same. How do these 3 differ?

Yes, I already grow hardy chicago and love it very much. I agree with you 100% on this variety. Do you have any favorite yellow/green varieties based on cold hardiness and flavor?

I was wondering if anyone is growing the southern brown turkey fig from Rolling River nursery in CA and if so how do you like it? I know brown turkey seems to be a catchall name for many figs and I wonder if this strain is the same as texas everbearing, does anyone know?
