I feel that the person who started the thread should be the one to let posters know that they have wandered off topic, if the person who started the thread is not upset, and the off topic posts are clean and of value, then who has the right to tell everyone to start a new thread. I feel that off topic posts are much more acceptable than posts of name calling and cussing, this is the thread that should be of serious discussion.

It's basically what someone is willing to pay. It's like everything else, if it doesn't sell at such a high price, eventually the price will come down. Unfortunately, there is always someone who will pay the high price, for one reason or another. Too bad there wasn't a lot of grafting being done so the varieties will become more available at a reasonable price. I have several grafted mango, peach, plum, avocado, persimmon etc..... that I very rarely paid over $35 for 3 gallon trees, again they were not sold until there was a reasonable supply.

Subject: What do nurseries use to feed their fig plants? Replies: 23

This could be wrong but I was informed that the 1ST # N- Nitrogen is for plant growth above ground, also greener plants, 2nd # P- Phosphorous is for starter growth(roots) and flowering and 3rd # K-Potassium is for overall health of plants. Does this sound about right? Slow release refers to N because over use could burn or damage roots and none of these 3 ### contains micronutrients unless they are added?

Last time, Dan says they are the same, Brian says they are the same and now Wills says they are the same,......why are we trying to make them different??? Where is the confusion?

Subject: Black Beauty 10 Replies: 231

I don't sell so I will keep them separate, and will not trade or gift until I know for sure, but if you can really understand what Dan is saying, they are the same. Go back and reread his/Charlie's posts. The only members that question the difference are the members that are having issues with Brian who has treated everyone great, as forum members and buyers from the forum and eBay. Again, I trust Dan when he said they are the same.

I have both and personally if they are the same exact fig then don't expect me to call them anything but BB10....period. And if they are the exact same fig, we shouldn't expect any of the buyers to give them different names. Remember, the reason there are two different names for Genovese Nero? Because they are not the same fig, they are DIFFERENT with DIFFERENT names. Besides, Dan pretty much said, in his goodbyes, that they are the same fig.

You're a good person Drew, even though the big bucks you could use more than most of us, you choose a more generous route. Good luck in your trades and start posting a wish list, some of us just might have what you want.

Welcome Brad to the F4F forum. Keep searching the forum for different ideas for rooting cuttings, there is no magic bullet, otherwise there would only be just one method. I've tried many and what works best for me, in south Florida, would not work for others because of our warm temperatures and high humidity. I root every cutting outside, even in cooler months of Dec.-Feb. Good luck and good growing.

Hey Robert, since you and Greg are spearheading this decision, why not try to get opinions from members on OurFigs, their opinion counts too. This group should not be the only forum in this discussion. Either both are true BB-10, from the same mother tree, or only one is the true BB-10 if from separate mother trees..... My point is, if they are both BB-10 the SAME exact fig in all ways, why would we use different names. Now if they are in fact different then why would we call them both BB-10??? This fig stuff is getting too complicated OR we are doing our best to make it complicated. Dan named this fig period, wouldn't it be terrible if his figs are circulated, even by someone else, and given another name?

Not year round, and they seem to go dormant with leaves still clinging to life but no stem growth, brebas are forming. I do have quarter size peaches on my trees and picked about a dozen plums in January. Everything blooms and then stops, then again and stops, crazy weather. Mangos, lychees, avocados, bananas, papayas, peaches, plums, all blooming and/or setting fruit.

The way I look at it, if I bid $20 then that IS my bid and no one should come along and take that bid away from me by bidding the same $20, I made a bid of $20 first, they made the bid of $20 after I did. I've seen on bid history as ME $20 HIM $20....winner HIM so they took my bid of $20 but I did not win. :(

Doesn't sound right, they should be at least $20.50 0r $21.00. I've seen this on the bidding history before when I have lost an auction, just doesn't make sense.

8 sets of LSU Strawberry cuttings out of 10 have been sold on eBay which means there will be several for sale next year from the new buyers not knowing that they have fakes. Be careful, especially new members who are not aware of the scammers of fig cuttings on eBay. Most eBay sellers are legit but the few selling fake varieties will increase the distribution when the new owners are ready to sell. I still maintain that the seller should be able to give information on authenticity, I know some members disagree but I ask several questions before I purchase. I trust that the LSU collectors can answer questions if you need assurance. I would start with Brian-CAJUNB for information.

It is my understanding that Dan does not own the original mother tree, I could be wrong, maybe I misunderstood his blogs. So if there is a mother tree elsewhere, is it possible that other cuttings from the owner of this tree be gifted or sold to other people? I definitely give all the credit due to Dan and his extensive research of this variety and wish him and us the best in getting this variety distributed to everyone, but I wish he had done this much earlier. My best wishes go out to Dan and everyone who buys from him.

If a real name is given, not a fake name or name withheld, there is a less likely chance that the member would trash or malign another member. You would have a difference of opinion but there would be a greater chance of the member acting like a mature adult. The majority of the time, the perpetrator is a nameless or fake name member causing havoc(drama) and this forum has experienced several of these members, however, there are people who are an exception to the rule. Besides when I trade or gift with members, I would like to know there name. I like to know the member when responding to their questions or just to have a forum conversation. No other information about the person is needed unless they want to tie it into their response on a thread. But of course, a member has every right to keep their name secret, no problem, as long as they are a member with the purpose of " figs 4 fun" and display mutual respect for one another.

eBay is loaded with some questionable listings right now. An example is the White Madeira, Harvey is the only trusted listing in my opinion. But selling fake cuttings is not just the buyers problem. Example: I have calculated about 33+ WM cuttings that have been or will be sold by the end of this week from eBay listings, guess what the buyers will be doing next year or so, that's right, distribution of fake varieties that they feel is the real deal, now there will be at least 3 different WM circulating our communities, only one is the real deal. That's how this practice is so discouraging and unethical. Make sure you know the source before you buy or you may be the next buyer who will be trading, gifting, or selling fake varieties in the future. Neither seller has responded to my questions or have not responded to my satisfaction.

This is an interesting thread, newbies would benefit to read the entire thread.
